What About the Tax Cheating Demagogue, Charlie Rangel?
Jim Geraghty makes a solid point about Rangel, another tax-cheating liberal Democrat:
If Tom Daschle’s failure to pay taxes was enough to keep him out of the job of Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Nancy Killefer’s failure to pay taxes was enough to keep her out of the job of chief performance officer, why is Charlie Rangel’s failure to pay taxes on thousands of dollars of annual rental income, for about 20 years in a row, not expected to amount to anything?
Rangel’s tax cheating problems are especially offensive as Rangel previously accused those who want to cut taxes as racist:
During the 1994 campaign, he implicitly smeared tax-cutting conservatives as racists. “It’s not ‘spic’ and ‘[n*gg*r]‘ anymore,” Rangel told an audience in Manhattan. “They say, ‘Let’s cut taxes.’” A few months later, he claimed the GOP’s Contract with America compared unfavorably with measures in Nazi Germany: “Hitler wasn’t even talking about doing these things.”
So cutting taxes is racist. Cheating on your taxes is just what Charles Rangel does.
