Baking the Bread

Two of my friends combined to buy my wife and me a combination toaster oven/breadmaker as a wedding present 11 years ago. Neither of us had ever baked bread. My wife is a very ative baker, but not of bread. I became the breadmaker in the family, and really love it. This winter I have been making a loaf every week, and the girls love the tase of freshly baked bread. Over the years, I’ve tried more complicated loaves, and my favorite is to bake a true sourdough using some starter I maintain in the refrigerator. The loaf shown above is a simple half whole wheat, half white loaf. The King Arthur Flour Company is a great source for breadmaking materials. If you have any interest in making bread, I suggest you start out by getting a breadmaker machine. After you work with that for a while, you can graduate to making loaves using other methods.
