Trig Calculus
If you google “downs abortion percentage,” you will find references to studies documenting that babies like Trig, with Downs syndrome, are aborted at a rate of 85-93 per cent. I think all children — like Trig or not — deserve legal protection.
A good number of people, including one political party and especially its current presidential candidate, think there’s a constitutional right to kill babies like Trig before they are born. I have read the constitution and it’s not there, and the opinion inventing the right is a piece of nonsense. I don’t think much of those people.
A subset of them think it is a particularly good thing to kill babies with Downs syndrome like Trig before they are born, and a subset of them think it’s OK to be really nasty to the baby’s mother because she didn’t abort. I really have trouble finding the good in those folks.
There’s also a significant, and separate, set of people who agree with me that all babies — like Trig or otherwise — deserve legal protection before birth, but who regularly vote for candidates and for the party who make sure that mothers have a right to abort.
I try really hard to treat those people with the grace and charity they deserve, and that might actually move their hearts, but it’s hard.
